Silent Film with Live Accompaniment
October 22 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

The presentation will start at 2 p.m. Admission is free and a free will offering will be collected toward the restoration of the church organ.
“Wings,” starring Clara Bow, Charles “Buddy” Rogers, Richard Arlen and Gary Cooper, won the first Academy Award for Best Picture (1927-1928). It tells the story of three people whose lives are upended by the events of World War One. A tour de force drama with comedic elements, it is not to be missed.
Mr. Klice will be accompanying the film using musical ideas first used by organist Gaylord Carter when he accompanied the film in Los Angeles movie houses, and later recorded. Gaylord Carter was a former organist at LCCC.
In conjunction with the film screening, musicologist Matthew Thomas will give a talk and musical demonstration at the Lanterman House on Saturday October 21st at 2pm (4420 Encinas Dr, La Cañada Flintridge, CA 91011) Dr. Thomas will discuss some of the various musical accompaniments “Wings” has experienced through the years and the legacy of silent film organists at the Congregational Church.
