Silent Film with Live Accompaniment
June 25 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm| Free
On Sunday, June 25, La Cañada Congregational Church will present the silent film “Wings” in the church sanctuary, accompanied by church organist Joseph Klice. The presentation will start at 4 p.m. There will also be a pre-concert lecture by Matthew Thomas in the church Fellowship Hall at 3:30. Dr. Thomas will discuss some of the various musical accompaniments “Wings” has experienced through the years.
“Wings,” starring Clara Bow, Charles “Buddy” Rogers, Richard Arlen and Gary Cooper, won the first Academy Award for Best Picture (1927-1928). It tells the story of three people whose lives are upended by the events of World War 1. A tour de force drama with comedic elements, it is not to be missed.
Mr. Klice will be accompanying the film using musical ideas first used by organist Gaylord Carter when he accompanied the film in Los Angeles movie houses, and later recorded. Gaylord Carter was a former organist at LCCC.
